Summary of the Book
Stephen Covey writes about how trust forms the basic need of the economy. He explains that global economy is shouldered by trust, and that we need to trust the people we interact with, customers, co-workers and managers, in order to function in this world. He explains how trust empowers our transactions and how to establish trust. He provides anecdotes and examples of how organizations can eliminate time-wasting bureaucratic checks and install a system of trust to believe in their employees and in their ability to carry out their responsibilities. He shows that costs come down when a company trusts its employees more. This principle is further reinforced by his stories of how democratic capitalism has succeeded where the old models have failed. His principles show readers that the trust they place in the people they interact with may sometimes be more valuable than the outcome of the interaction itself, making valuable decisive factors in future transactions.

Stephen M. R. Covey is an American orator and writer. He is the son of the late Stephen R. Covey who was known for his book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.
Covey is the co-founder and CEO of a company called CoveyLink Worldwide and former President and CEO of Covey Leadership Center.

স্টিফেন আর. কোভি এর পূর্ণ নাম স্টিফেন রিচার্ডস কোভি। তিনি জন্ম নিয়েছিলেন ১৯৩২ সালের ২৪শে অক্টোবর। জন্মগতভাবে তিনি একজন আমেরিকান। তিনি একাধারে একজন শিক্ষক, লেখক, বক্তা ও ব্যবসায়ী ছিলেন। তাঁর বক্তব্যগুলো মূলত অনুপ্রেরণাদায়ী, যাকে আমরা বর্তমানে ‘মোটিভেশনাল স্পিচ’ নামেই বেশি চিনি। স্টিফেন আর কোভি এর বই সমূহ হচ্ছে ফার্স্ট থিংস ফার্স্ট, দ্য লিডার ইন মি, দ্য এইটথ হ্যাবিট, প্রিন্সিপ্যাল-সেন্টার্ড লিডারশিপ, দ্য থার্ড অল্টারনেটিভ ইত্যাদি। তাঁর প্রথম বই ছিল স্পিরিচুয়াল রুটস অফ হিউম্যান রিলেশনস (১৯৭০)। এটি ডেসেরেট বুক কোম্পানি থেকে প্রকাশ পায়। তাঁর পরবর্তী লেখাগুলোর পূর্বাভাস হিসেবে এই বইটিকে ধরা যায়। স্টিফেন আর. কোভি এর অনুবাদ বইগুলোর মাধ্যমে তাঁর অনুপ্রেরণাদায়ী বক্তব্য বিশ্বজোড়া মানুষের মধ্যে পৌঁছে যাচ্ছে। বাংলা ভাষাতেও তাঁর বই অনূদিত হয়েছে। তাঁর সবচেয়ে জনপ্রিয় বই হলো ‘দ্য সেভেন হ্যাবিটস অফ হাইলি ইফেক্টিভ পিপল’। স্টিফেন আর. কোভি এর বই সমগ্র বিশ্বজুড়ে বিখ্যাত, কারণ তিনি তাঁর লেখার মধ্য দিয়ে মানুষকে অনুপ্রেরণার ছোঁয়া দিতে পেরেছেন। ১৯৯৬ সালের টাইমস ম্যাগাজিন বিশ্বের ২৫ জন সর্বাধিক প্রভাবশালী ব্যক্তির মধ্যে তাঁকে রাখে। ২০০৮ সালে তিনি স্টিফেন কোভি অনলাইন সম্প্রদায় গড়ে তোলেন। ২০১২ সালের ১৬ জুলাই কোভি পৃথিবীর মায়া ত্যাগ করেন। মৃত্যুর সময়ে তিনি উটাহ স্টেট বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে জন এম. হান্টসম্যান স্কুল অফ বিজনেসের অধ্যাপক ছিলেন। তাঁর পড়াশোনাও ব্যবসায় অনুষদের সাথে সম্পৃক্ত ছিল। তবে একটা সময় আমেরিকান সেলফ হেল্প বইগুলো পড়ে তাঁর মাথায় চিন্তা আসে যে, এভাবে তিনি অনেককেই হয়তো অনুপ্রাণিত করতে পারবেন। তিনি পিটার ড্রাকার ও কার্ল রজার্সের দ্বারা মনস্তাত্ত্বিকভাবে অনেকটা প্রভাবিত ছিলেন।
